This is the ultimate trivia question and its in the theme of Seattle Crime – even more specifically, it is about shoplifting and retail theft.
Here is the question….
When it comes to the crime of shoplifting, in what way is Seattle unique or different from every other city in the ENTIRE country?
Asked another way –
Seattle is the only city in the entire united States that is different in this certain way – in what way is Seattle different? Specifically, when it comes to preventing shoplifting…
*YOU CAN MAYBE GIVE THEM A HINT IF YOU’D LIKE – ONE POSSIBLE HINT WOULD BE TO SAY THAT IT DOESN’T INVOLVE THE POLICE*
The answer is this…..
Seattle Police have no involvement in any shoplifting case. They are not responsible for the investigation of shoplifting, the arrest of the subject, prosecution of the the criminal etc.
We are the only city in the country that is in a special contract with the retail stores where police give up the rights and privileges of arrest and pressing charges on shoplifters. In handing over the responsibility to the retail security and loss prevention, it enables police to spend there time focusing on crime in other parts of the city and prevents shoplifters from fleeing while the store waits for SPD to arrive.
Good luck and have fun with this little known seattle crime and police related factoid.
