Teens Slash Sleeping Man Outside Downtown Bus Tunnel

From the SPD Blotter:

On July 2, at approximately 2:30 AM, West Precinct officers responded to a report of an assault in the 500 Block of 3rd Avenue.  The call stated that a man had his neck cut.  Officers arrived quickly and located both the victim and a witness who both pointed out two  group of individuals walking away from the scene in opposite directions. The individuals were stopped and three out of the four suspects were positively identified.  Officers arrested the suspects and transported them to the precinct. Officers were able to determine that the victim and witness had been sleeping next to the transit tunnel entrance in the 200 Block of Yesler Way.  The victim and witness woke up to the group standing around the victim  assaulting him.   The victim had cuts on his face and neck, and had been cut with a broken bottle and hit in the face with a brick.  The Seattle Fire Department responded to treat the 38 year old victim before transporting him to Harborview Medical Center.  The suspects, ages 15, 16, and 19 were all booked into the Youth Services Center and King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.

They should try them all as adults and I hope the victim sues the parents if they do not try them as adults.

what amazes me
about these stories is the perps never seem to leave the scene of the crime. The cops must take a minute or two to get there, and yet the responsible parties always seem to be hanging out around the corner, or 'walking away'. Maybe they just like to stay and see the mayhem they have created...

RE: damn kids
Juvie (YSC) will only accept juveniles offenders into their facility prior to arraignment for certain types of crimes. It's not the cops' fault that some kids get to go home to their families after being busted for crimes, it's because of the juvie detention intake criteria. The rationale is that juvenile offenders are more likely to end back up in detention the more they are exposed to it. YSC figures that if they can reduce the incidents of detention exposure, they're actually helping the juveniles to not end back up in detention later...therefore, they will only initially accept juveniles for certain types of crimes.
