Two Men Charged for Separate Bleach Attacks In Capitol Hill, Ballard

Last month, Prosecutors filed charges against two men who used bleach as a weapon in a string of unrelated attacks, several weeks apart.

In the first case, prosecutors charged Omar Schrier with assault, stalking, and burglary on October 16th after he allegedly stalked and attacked a woman he'd met on the street in Ballard.

Police records say Schrier first approached the woman on October 1st as she was walking to work in Ballard and asked for directions. Schrier made small talk, police records say, and asked her out on a date. The woman turned him down, but gave him her business card. When the woman returned home later that day, Schrier showed up at her apartment, asked her out again, and badgered her for her phone number. The woman finally acquiesced and gave the man her number, hoping to get rid of him.

Two days later, Schrier showed up at her workplace three different times. Later that night, someone knocked on the woman's door, but when she answered, no one was there. The woman called police to report that she was being stalked, and went to stay at a friend's house. The next morning, when she returned to her apartment, she found that it had been burglarized. The woman reported that an iPod, DVD player, and laptop, as well as pairs of shoes, bras, and underwear had gone missing.

Finally, on October 9th, police records say Schrier, while on a bicycle, approached the woman as she stood outside of her workplace in Ballard and tossed a container of bleach in her face. The woman screamed and tried to pepper spray Schrier, records say, but he was able to flee on his bike. He was arrested on October 14th in Renton, where police found that he was also in possession of a stolen bike.

Several weeks later, on November 4th, prosecutors also charged Brent Sinead Duvall with three counts of assault after he allegedly attacked three people on Capitol Hill with bleach.

On October 31st, 10:30 a.m. a man walked in to Duvall's apartment building on 10th Ave E and E Roy inquiring about renting an apartment. Duvall, prosecutors say, approached the man and threw a coffee mug full of bleach in the man's face

Five hours later, court records say Duvall, 40, approached a woman on 10th Avenue E and E Roy carrying two yellow tumblers. As he passed the woman, records say, he turned and threw bleach into the woman's face. Moments later, Duvall approached another man riding his bike on Roy Street and threw a cup of bleach in his face, and ran back into his building. Duvall's neighbors identified him to police, who took him in to custody.

When police entered Duvall's apartment, they found it in total disarray. A plate glass window had been broken, the living room carpet had been set on fire, paint had been dumped on the stove, a shower curtain had been set on fire, and the refrigerator was lying on its side. Officers also found two bottles of Clorox bleach in the apartment.

Court records say when police told him he was under arrest for throwing bleach in people's faces, Duvall responded, "Yes, I know. I have mental issues and the medications I am taking for them are not working." Records also indicate Duvall has three prior warrants.

Records appear to indicate that no one was seriously injured in any of these attacks.
